All you have to do is get a bag of straws (you can honestly just use the really cheap ones that you find at Dollar Tree, I did!) and hand them out to the kids. You can call them "trackers" or "pointers" or you can even call it a "stylus" if you want! Then when students are asked to track along with rhythms, melodies, whatever, you can see their movement from line to line. The kids like using the straws and this keeps them more on task with the activity and I LOVE the straws because I can quickly tell whether the kids are actually following along with the melody/rhythm or not! Everybody wins!
Other ideas? You could use the straws for conducting batons or for bar lines (if you're doing popsicle stick notation) or for super quiet rhythm sticks... lots of fun uses and super cheap to replace if you ever have to!
I can't wait! I hope you're excited too! If you want an amazing preview of the things that are going to be available you can check out Mrs. Miracle's Music Room Blog and see how she's blogged about the fun resources that will be given away! Only two more days!!
