As you can imagine, I've been overwhelmed with planning my new room, thinking about how to utilize the space, where to put bulletin boards/word walls, and what songs to sing as we start the year. You can expect a "room tour" pretty soon on the decor page of this blog, so that I can show off all the hard work that went into crafting my new classroom. :D On top of planning the room, I'm teaching middle schoolers for the first time, guitar classes for the first time, and beginning/advanced orchestra for the first time. My music teacher brain has been on overdrive as I try and set all classes on a course for success. It's been a busy last few weeks.
While all that's been going on, another set of changes has been under way. September marks two years now that I've been blogging. What a crazy and quick two years that it's been! I've personally grown so much through writing, sharing ideas, and connecting with people all around the world. Often people come up to me and tell me that they've gained something from reading my blog entries, but I keep telling people that I think that I've LEARNED more than I've shared. Keeping this blog has helped me find fabulous new ideas that have changed the way that I teach. Thanks to all of YOU for helping me along in this journey and for reading!
So to celebrate two years of blogging I decided it was time for a change. I just finished a major overhaul of the blog and updated pictures, layout, content, and lots more. It took quite a while but (I feel like this is a theme...) in the process of changing so much, I myself learned and grew! I had to deal with a lot of the inner-workings of the website and what makes it tick. There was quite a bit of creation and modification (and only a little frustration).
Some Big Changes to the Blog:
** I've also changed and modified the "Downloads" section of this website so that important resources are easier to find. Again, you can now click the main "Downloads" page or go through one of the drop down options to more easily find exactly what your'e looking for. I plan to continue working on this section so that it's more streamlined and easy to use. Definitely check out the "Downloads" drop down option and look through the great freebies that I've found. There are so many awesome resources from so many great teacher/authors. You'll be in heaven!
** I've added a whole section of common/public domain nursery rhymes. The Orff Schulwerk tag line is often "Sing, Say, Dance, Play!" and I'll admit that I often get caught up in the Sing, Dance, Play and not so much the Say. I hope that those rhymes can be a springboard for inspiration and a place for you to find amazing poems you didn't know existed. If you have a favorite nursery rhyme and it's not in that list, email me and I'll try and add it! I want those pages to grow so that we can all have quick access to amazing rhymes to be used in the classroom.
Yet to Come:
** More blog posts! I have so many things that I want to share... just not enough time! :D If there's anything that you'd like for me to write about, shoot me an email. If I know anything about the topic you're interested in, I'll try and work it into the schedule! :)
"All Things New" Giveaway!
This summer as I planned my move into a new classroom I started to think of all the posters, labels, vocabulary words, bulletin boards, and other visual supports that I would need in the room. I quickly got to work and came up with a huge bundle of resources that I tried to adapt specifically for an Orff Schulwerk classroom. There was an Orffy word wall, instrument family flags, bulletin boards, teacher binder covers/inserts, movement word flashcards, recorder fingering charts and visuals, instrument rules/instrument set-up posters, pitched and non-pitched instrument labels, and so much more. If you know anything about me and my nerdy OCD tendencies you'll know that EVERYTHING was color-coordinated. I made the set that I needed and then I adapted it in two different colors schemes.
Check out these images to see what's included in a classroom decor bundle (click to enlarge)! For more in-depth images and explanations check out these links: Explorer Color Scheme,
Heritage Color Scheme, Vintage Color Scheme.
And CHECK BACK on Thursday to see who has won the classroom decor sets and to learn how the festivities keep going! I've got big plans for this week and next weekend. So excited to celebrate TWO YEARS of blogging, creating resources, sharing, and more than anything, growing! Thanks for everything!
